to a group to thrive, and should be not only tolerated, but nurtured. Where elitism
strays from this is in both intent and behavior is that the elitist will promote their
values and beliefs, like everyone else, but they denigrate all else in order to
hold themselves up as a guiding light for others to follow. Good natured controversy
doesn't involve people taking themselves seriously and there is a potential for
both sides to learn from each other. It doesn't take much effort to take an idea
and propose a few changes, and we all do this. The elitist does this pretty much
all of the time. Typically, if they can't dazzle you with their brilliance or
baffle you with their diatribe, then they can always use the Uriah Heep style of
manipulation. Once this is pointed out, they stop long enough to figure out a
new tact to take. The prospect of change is bleak without self awareness. The
goals are: sell you something and convince you that they are the expert.
