This one is from an old story called "Slime," by Joseph Payne Brennan. It's about a giant black amoeba that emerges from the ocean and proceeds to eat anything that comes across it's path. This drawing was done on scratchboard, a paper that is covered with a waxy coat; you apply ink to it, then use needles and sharp styluses to scratch away ink to produce the image you want.

Very nice, sparrowhawk! If I have time and can find it, I'll try to post my only venture into scratchboard. The taking away of medium was a very interesting process...makes you kinda think backwards.

Actually, I have little training in art (some would say it shows); my actual field is writing; I hold an MA in English. And yes, the writing is gothic in nature, rather like the art. I'm currently writing a vampire novel.
