There's lots of cool, new, interesting things happening at Lane Limited.
No offense to them, but they did seem like they were a little sleepy under the ownership of Reynolds American.
Now that Lane is owned by STG (the biggest pipe tobacco company in the world even before they bought Lane), they have recruited an experienced Brand Manager that is also a pipe smoker for 17 years.
Over the past couple of weeks I've had several phone conversations with him. He is quite intelligent, energetic and motivated and really a breath of fresh air for Lane.
Here's the EXCLUSIVE scoop on what's happening with Lane Limited for 2012 just before the New Year dawns.

Interesting read and the change sounds like it will be for the better!
I noticed however that Captain Black Light was now listed as Captain Black Round and has orientals in it. Is this a new blend that uses the light blue packaging color scheme? Or is this just the same old "light" with a new name?
Either way sounds tasty!

Juvat:

You are correct. Going forward, Captain Black Light will be re-named Captain Black Round Taste. Name change only. Absolutely NO change to the product itself. The reason for the change is that Scandinvian Tobacco Group (STG), our parent company, prefers not to use to word 'light' on any of its products. (Too many potentially confusing connotations with the word when it comes to food/tobacco products).

Regarding the use of the word "Light", there are some recent new laws (within the last few years, and some more recent) that disallow the word to be used on the name of a tobacco product. Another example is Dunhill Standard Mixture Mellow. It used to be named Dunhill Standard Mixture Light. There are lots of other examples too.

Marc:

Making these products more readily available is our number one priority, as you can imagine. Believe it or not, there have been no marketing efforts or sales force behind Sir Walther Raleigh, Captain Black or any of Lane Limited's brands for almost five years. That all started to change this past March, and 2012 should be a happier new year.
