I do this quite often with my English blends. I can't do it with Aromatics though. OGS actually tastes quite good after it's been out overnight half smoked.

I will usually pack one bowl in the morning and that will last me all day. Depending on the bowl size I will smoke to and from work, and possibly later that evening. On average it will take me over 10 hours to finish a complete bowl, not smoking consistantly of course. I have not ran into any problems smoking my pipes this way.

I don't think I could smoke a pipe if I couldn't let it go out and come back later, even the next morning,

and finish. Maybe I'm ADHD, but I just always find myself off on this or that activity or project. I do set

aside time to only smoke (or smoke and read, smoke and work at the computer, smoke and write etc.).

I do not find it diminishes the tobacco much or at all. In some cases, if the tobacco is a little too humid,

it actually improves it. I occasionally mix tobaccos in a small ceramic bowl and leave them overnight or

for a day or days, and it is usually fine for smoking when I get to it. This all sounds quirky and

contrarian, and I don't mean to be. It works for me for some reason. Perhaps a relatively humid climate

helps. I respect those who want only a bowl fresh from the tin or jar. But this works for me.

Simple solution is getting a smaller pipe! That's why I like my small pipes. I don't really like loading half-bowls in a bigger pipe. To me a pipe just doesn't pack/smoke as good unless filled to the brim.

So I went back to my bowl of Capstan this afternoon and finished it with a good, quality smoke. I think the fact that I had smoked so little of it last night helped, and from the comments of some, the fact that it was a Va blend might have helped too. Thanks again for all the feedback.

Yes, I do the DGT all the time - and find that the second smoke is just as good as the first, sometimes even better. But it's important that it's a dry smoke; and I never let it sit more than a couple of hours between smokes, very occasionally overnight, with a pipe cleaner in the stem.

Capstan is great for relighting. Both blue and yellow can be smoked with pleasure even if left overnight.
