Savinelli Roma Faded Rim

Hello, I am a new pipe smoker and am enjoying the hobby so much! I recently purchased a Savinelli Roma 626. I’m in love with it; the look, the way it smokes, the weight, everything. However, one of the things that attracted me most to the Roma line is the red / burgundy rim of the bowl. After about a week of use, I am noticing that the red color seems to be fading a bit (see pic). It almost seems like it’s coming off on the bottom right side. Is this normal? Is there a way to “restrain” the rim to make it pop more? Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Are you rubbing/wiping the rim? I have some Savinellis that don't take kindly to moisture with their finishes. The other question is do you keep your pipe by a window exposed to sunlight? UV light will fade pigment. Yellows and reds will go first. Even see vegetable cans stacked in a window display at a supermarket that look blue? That's because the yellow and red pigments have faded.

The pipe stays on a stand away from sunlight when not in use but my back porch (which is primarily where I smoke) is in pretty direct sunlight in the afternoons [when I usually enjoy it]. Also, after each smoke I run a pipe cleaner through the stem, and then lightly lick another one and rub it around the red rim of the bowl to remove any gunk / ash / etc. After a few times I began to suspect that this is what was rubbing the color off so I stopped.

Yes, I've made the mistake of doing a wet wipe on a Savinelli. I believe you have your answer.

I have a Savinelli Roma Lucite 673 (Friday Savinelli) for a few years and it still looks good. Be careful with the flame, and try not to rub too hard when cleaning.

Wow! I clean the rims on my pipes regularly with no issues. Then again I don't own any Savinelli. Maybe someone might persuade them (pool cue, baseball bat, cement kimono, dead fish wrapped with shoes in a newspaper) that they offer a higher quality of staining.
