Thanks Phil.
Soren, if you like the Savinelli that comes with the cap, get it. Just leave the cap in the box and don't use it. With that being said, I also like the 2 pipes that you more recently posted.
Bull, that's a nice pipe!
I own 5 Savinelli pipes and really like them all. 1 of them is a Savinelli Second pipe. I have no verifiable proof except that the B&M where I bought it from says that it is a Sav Second.

The band really sets off the all black pipe IMHO. The one I found in the pipe shop the top of the bowl is not rusticated and the bowl is a little deeper. but, both are black with the band.

I think I've decided to by a Savinelli.
Im going to go with this one because I like the bowl a little more than the first one I posted. It's more my style I think. Like suggested, Ill probably just set aside the cap as I usually dont carry around my pipe in my pocket.

I actually just smoked my very first Savinelli this afternoon and I had to post. I have 3 Peterson Tawney Deluxe meerschaums, a handmade Israel briar, a couple of MM corn cobs, and a 16" clay tavern. I scored two Savinelli's last week (A Roma #101 and an Extra 115 KS) and quite honestly I fell in love with the Savinelli Roma. Its a chubby billiard so it's hefty, but it smoked so well and very cool as I sipped on it. I smoked it with Sutliff's 'Molto Dolce' which just seemed fitting! All in all I absolutely love my Savinelli and would recommend anyone to give them a shot.

I like the Sophia Loren suggestion. Some of the younger guys here probably don't know who she is, so: a) One of the most beautiful actresses ever filmed b) One of the world's richest women (from the art collection Ponti left her). Thanks to the input I got here I recently got my first Savinelli, a new Giubileo D'Oro. It is unquestionably one of my best pipes, comparable to a Dunhill Root Briar. I have ordered the second. Unfortunately the series has been discontinued and I got the last straight version I could find.

I love my Savs. They are great pipes. My first briar is a Savinelli. It is a bent Duca Carlo. It is now dedicated to English blends, usually Nightcap. I have nothing but good things to say about them. The only problem I have ever had is from a Trevi 320 rustic. To my horror, it developed some cracks on the inside of the bowl. I sent it back and had it replaced. The replacement recently had a little spot on the inside of the bowl and a little piece burned out. I am paranoid of a burnout, but can't send it back. I'm hoping it's nothing to worry about. Other than that, they are great pipes and I would strongly recommend them to everyone. They are a great price for the value and I will be buying more in the future.

Th first 6 pipes, left to right in this line-up are all Savinelli. I have a few others that I leave at camp and they are all fantastic smokers. Especially my Bing, I need to snag a few more, Bing's Favorite's are incredible.

As a new pipe smoker I've bought some Savis. Now I have 7.

In spite of the rave here, I am not a fan. Not bad but not great. I'm planning to sell them sooner or later.

No question, Savinelli is about the most pipe you can get dollar for dollar. I have a beautiful

no-filter Dublin and a billiard, both light as air, that are about 30 years old, and still great

smokers, and a churchwarden from this Christmas, a 601 if I remember, also no filter.

They are all elegant, lightweight, and superb smokers. My only complaint would be that

with many Savinelli pipes you are committed to a 6 mm filter or an adapter, and in a

bulldog pipe I bought, I felt the adapter imparted a flavor, or at least made the smoke

more bland. That limits my choices. They make a line of sandblast or rusticated large pipes

without filters at low prices, and my churchwarden, but most other pipes, you get a filter or

the adapter option. I wish they'd mix it up more. One of their major distribution hubs is

a few miles from my residence, but they do strictly wholesale, no outlet with deep discounts --

ha-ha. I traded off the Savinelli bulldog for something I liked better. The rest are "permanent

party," as they of a ships regular crew.

I have four Savinellis. 920KS Caramella, 920KS Solaria, 677KS Miele, and a rusticated Bing's Favorite.
From my experience with Savinelli I have to say they're great pieps. Very well made and deliver a quality smoke every time. You really can't go wrong if you buy one.
Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is quality.
I've never sampled any of their tobacco blends yet.

I just ordered my first Savinelli--my first slightly "high-end" pipe. Should be receiving it by this weekend, and am looking forward to giving it a try! It's this one, the Petite Rusticated (601) :
