Maybe it's me, or maybe it's the Savinelli Roma I'm smoking it in, but I just can't get a consistently satisfying bowl out of Savinelli's Jupiter. As part of Savinelli's God's line of blends, I am aware that many, even perhaps many here, are fans of this blend. I can see why....sometimes. On paper, it should be a perfect blend for my palate:

"Savinelli's Jupiter features a blend of white and dark Burleys, Red and Bright Virginias, and a touch of spicy, Dark-Fired Kentucky. This remarkable mixture is further enhanced by a delicate topping of dark rum and molasses for a sweet, nutty, and complex flavor profile."

I haver recently become a big fan of Vapurs and Vaburs. Add some Dark Fried Kentucky or perique into the blend, and it's heaven. Having said that, i just can't figure this blend out. To be fair, I haven't yet finished all of the tin, but I have smoked several bowls in a few different pipes, though i smoke it primarily is a Savinelli Roma Colosseum, and I am currently at a 50% enjoyment rate. I mean that literally; half of the bowls have been very good, and the other half have been mediocre at best. When the taste its there, it's awesome. It's rich, with a scent of hay, earth, and cranberries. I have had a couple of bowls that were almost as good as my go to blends.

But when it's "off", it's just a pipe filler. Once I finish the tin, I will come back with a final decision, but so far, this has been a inconsistent, but very promising, blend.

I think I still have Janus in jar. Haven't gotten to Jupiter yet. Per the review, it's in flake form. Are you smoking it as a flake? Fold and stuff? Or do you rub it out? For best uniform flavor/taste sampling, completely rub out the flake and mix it well. Also, are you tamping? Dumping ash? Usually when taste "runs" out in middle of smoke, light tamping helps. Of course, dumping ashes and running pipe cleaner also freshens the pipe.

You may have issues with the white Burley in the blend. I have a number of vaburs in my cellar but not a single one with white Burley. For some weird reason the white tastes like shit to me. There is a blend called Reiner Long Golden that I should love. It is a beautiful wrap around flake and after trying it a dozen years ago I didn't care for it and I didn't know why. I then found out it contained white Burley and it still sucked. I can only assume it is the white Burley I don't like because all of the other ingredients I love and have many blends without the white burley in my cellar that smoke great for me.

I've been doing all the "right steps" you've suggested. This is a head scratcher.

Can't help you with the Jupiter as I've never smoked it. It sounds like you would enjoy C&D ThreeFriars bulk. It's a tasty blend of virginias, burleys, and a touch of good quality perique. It's best to sip it and let it barely smolder.

I have found Jupiter to be uneven, sometimes it’s good other times meh. I haven‘t tried to figure it out, it’s not on the list for re-order.
I found the beloved Doblone de ora or whatever it's called the Sav Coin tobacco to be the most uneven thing I have ever smoked. It has made me wonder if a piece of the highway got in the bowl some how. Jupiter I find to be much more consistent then that one and enjoyable the whole way through. Funny how there are so many pipe tobaccos and so many more opinions on them.

I smoked a tin of it last summer, and didn't notice that it was inconsistent. However, I only smoked it in the morning with my first cup of coffee, so that probably helps.

I occasionally don't enjoy a pipe full of probably about every blend I've tried, and I always just figure it must not fit my taste or desire of the moment, and forget about it. I'm probably just too simple and lazy to bother coming up with any other reason.
