Savinelli Humidor 614 Restoration (Pic Heavy)

Came across a Sav Humidor pipe for some pocket change and it was quite in need for a cleaning.

After reaming with the Pipnet, and cleaning with wet paper towels, I found a beautiful rim with no charring, which surprised me quite a bit.

Gave the stem a good sanding from 1000 to 12,000 grit.

Cotton Balls and moonshine were employed to dispel one of the worst Latakia hauntings I have came across.

And after some buffing with a soft cloth, it's ready to begin its new life as a Virginia pipe.

A cheap set up for starting: hand drill with a 4 inch buffer pad. $5 at Harbor Freight.

A vise would work too. I have a buffer setup but I still use a hand drill for certain hard to reach spots. I just hold the bowl with one hand and hold the drill in the other. Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack the post.

No not at all, I appreciate the input! So far, I've just been using thin sheets of sandpaper, and micromesh pads. Really does a number on the knuckles!

Forgot to mention that there was cake filling the draft and airway. Had to use a drill bit to slowly clear it. I've not seen that before.

I'm guessing its last owner wasn't fond of pipe cleaners and tar and oils built up and finally strangled the draft. There was absolutely no airflow through the pipe at all. I cleared it with a Senior Reamer's drill bit, but was scared the shank would crack while doing it. After turning the bit through several slow increments, it finally cleared.
