Hi, everybody,
Kinda new around here, but am hoping this is a good place to get an answer to a question that's been bugging me. I recently got a Savinelli Artisan, and when cleaning for the first time I noticed the bit is ... different. There's what appears to be a slot, but the bit is solid except for a tiny hole in the center. (Fuzzy picture attached; my camera doesn't like close-ups.)
The bore is 4mm through the shank, drops to 3.5mm through the tenon and the lower part of the stem, and is only 2mm by the time it reaches the bit. The draw isn't totally constricted, but it's not wide-open either. And I haven't smoked the pipe enough to form any strong opinions about it. But this seems strange.
Did somebody forget to cut a slot in the bit before the pipe left the factory? Or is this some deliberate stroke of genius I just don't understand? Any ideas are welcome.
Alan
