I live on the south shore of long island and storm surge could put us under. Although OK do have to go to work today which is worse, I work on a boat!

Our lab is closed until at least noon tomorrow. I was laughing with my girlfriend this morning when we got up because the wind was already whipping the trees. I told her that was the sound of our power going out for a week. You have to laugh because you can't stop the storm with worrying. We're as prepared as we're gonna get here at my house but I'm more worried about my cats going insane and then driving me insane by extension. All the birds were completely gone by 6pm yesterday and I haven't seen any squirrels either. I'm sure that doesn't bode well but we're ready.
To everyone in the storm's path, I wish you luck and a minimal amount of hardship (preferably none)!

I hope everyone on the East Coast is stays safe, family and property.
It's already hitting here in Northern VA, I knew we would have some damage, but didn't think it would happen this soon........

My plaza is only a few miles from the water in Rhode Island, but luckily it faces west. The storm will hit from the east and there is a bigger plaza above me to the right which should block some of the wind. The big problem will be flooding, we always have issues with that even in regular storms. My manager is making sure we are ready for whatever takes place, but I know it isn't gonna be pretty.
Good luck to everyone who is in the path, hopefully we all come through unscathed.

Advantages to working tech support for a multinational financial company

1:) we don't close for anything (seriously I could be looking out the window at throngs of zombies right now and they'd be all like "get back on the phone slacker"), which means I'm not losing any money due to the storm.

2:) we have backup after backup after backup in place for power and internet and phones

3:) unlimited free coffee
disadvantages

1:) we don't close for anything, which means I'm sitting here instead of at home

2:) I have to go outside for a smoke

3:) our smoking area has basically a bus stop style building and provides no protection from the elements if the wind is blowing the wrong way

Landfall now at nj shore.....winds gusting to 90mph......Atlantic city cut off from rest of state as well as barrier islands. We have fared quite well 70 miles north of AC here . Power on and off all day. most around me no power.

Belmar beach 1.5 miles from my home currently disappeared. Water on land for blocks. Catastrophic damage all around. All roads closed including GS parkway..Darkness has arrived.

Leave it to the media to sensationalize it to death calling it "The Perfect Storm"
That storm would be a Category 4 Hurricane instead of a 1, and the Noreaster would have already been stalled over the area as well.

Tree across the street from my place was just uprooted. Stretched across the street crushing two cars. Missed my car by two car lengths. Wow, the wind isn't even as bad as it's expected to get.

Im in PA now, but my family is home in toms river new jersey, they got slammed. We lost 3 huge trees, luckily they all missed our house, but they were beautiful trees, and we are sad to see them gone. I know seaside boardwalk is mostly gone, along with most of the beach. Its a disaster

That Sandy B***h dropped a branch on the hood of my car and sliced a piece of the underside body of car as well. All in all everybody here is healthy and safe. Hope everybody got through this okay.
