Okay, I just licked about ten of my pipes. Smooth and sandblast. They taste the same.
Am I doing this right?
Am I doing this right?
Really! Guess I've been missing out all these 60 years. The replies are exactly what I was expecting from this forum. I also noticed a taste difference. So much so that I'm considering buying a new, smooth, dry pipe. Imo it tastes better in smooth pipes.
Out of all of those 904/9+4/9004/9005s with Giubileo d'Oro, Punto Oro, Corallo di Mare, Deluxe, etc. stamps, they all tasted the same unless ghosted by another blend.I have two identical Savinelli Punto Oro Gold 106's. One is smooth and one is sandblasted. After a few years with each, I can say they have always tasted the same. But tonight I will compare them again, you know, for science.
I just tested this with my two identical pipes, one smooth and one sand blasted. I can say that the pipes themselves taste the same. The only difference I can detect is old tobacco ghosts.Hi Guys,
I've notice that all my sandblasted pipes (different makers) wich are all black sandblast, have a different flavour than my normal briars.
The taste is duller than the normal briars, especcialy the ones that have a pre coating (tried even removing it, nothing change).
Maybe is the black dye I'dont know, it's a shame because i love them but they are so dull and flavorless.
Any of you experience the same thing or I'm going crazy?
Thank you
You actually tested this lunacy?! Admirable; a better man than I.I just tested this with my two identical pipes, one smooth and one sand blasted. I can say that the pipes themselves taste the same. The only difference I can detect is old tobacco ghosts.
That may be the difference you notice. Some old tobacco flavors go good together, and some don't.
But if I must, I'll keep smoking them till I find a difference! ...for science.
De mortuis nil nisi bonum dicendum estAs I recall, the late Bruce Cahn, aka @foggymountain, the famed Dunhill collector, said different Dunhill finishes taste different.
