Me too. In Britain & Ireland, juicy flakes & plugs are what we’re used to & what we’ve been brought up on. If a bunch of lily livered millennials can’t work out how to light pipe, then that’s not my concern.
I love to listen to ye „oldish“ tough cookies. Grown up in gloomy suburbs, climbing up slippery welsh slate piles, the stormy crags of the south or guarding highland cattle in the mountain mist.

They were those young hooligans on the rampage, sturdy individuals, always seen with a pipe between their primary teeth loaded with a pinch of FVF.

Lighting up? Pfffft…

Yes I do find them harder to initially light up but a small amount rubbed out to a fine ribbon\powder on top helps get it going . Once going I appreciate their naturally slow burning nature. Of all the flake producers SG\G&H is prob my favourite. But C&D is hot on their heels

Sorry mate, didn’t want to be rude but I’ve been reading the same old bollocks for years now. We all can benefit from a slap in the face now & again. There’s a couple of forum stalwarts / keyboard warriors that definitely could. Lol

Honestly, if I was new to the pipe & relied on some of the threads on here, well, I’d have to give it up as a bad job.
The simple goal of smoking & ‘enjoying’ a pipe should be exactly that, simple. No need to overthink things & make it all one big ball ache.

Tobacco needs to be dried out to get the best out of it.
No it doesn’t!
Cube Cutting is best for flakes & plugs.
No it isn’t!
Breathe Smoking is the way.
Complete Tosh!

Breath / Slow smoking is great if you’re sat quietly or going through life in a close to vegetive state, if you like to smoke your pipe on the go or when you’re working, then it’s all rather pointless & a complete waste of time & effort.

If you can’t get to grips with a certain cut of tobacco & are struggling to enjoy it, then leave it alone & try something else. You can always revisit it further down the line, when you’re more familiar with what works & doesn’t work for you. There’s plenty of ‘easy to smoke’ blends out there to help you along the way. Flakes, plugs, aromatics etc, simple enjoyment is the key to them all.

Not at all, I slow smoke at work all of the time. If you need to think about it or put any effort into smoking a pipe, you're trying too hard.

God made microwaves with 10ish second timers on them for drying tobacco. I find FVF chopped up (cubed is too fancy a term for my knife work) still takes another couple hours spread out on paper towel, even if it feels dry out of the microwave (sacrilege I know).

I do fold and stuff with SG flakes. And of course always add some crumbs on top for kindling. Bengal Slices is the only tobacco I have to rub out to get it to burn reliably.

Im going to disagree, I find SG/GH flakes rather easy smokes. They now make up the majority of my stash. Even the thick wet beef jerky like slices of 1792 burn well for me. I just rub out and pack away. If i do find a bowl difficult to light its usually due to poor loading. SG/GH flakes burn into a very fine ash, better than most other flakes I've smoked.

If you have a problem just add a splash of some high octane accelerant! (Im not responsible for your stupidity!) 20230211_185402.jpg

Yeah, tell it to the newbs. Unfortunately for you, you posted a video ‘tutorial’ on here a few years ago that has stayed with me (for all the wrong reasons).
Sat under a tree, you showed us all how to breathe smoke. The intense fixed gaze towards the bowl on the end of your pipe & the degree of concentration in trying not to produce any smoke was as comical as it was disturbing.
If some chinless wonder showed that much concentration to his pipe where I work, instead of the job in hand, he’d get sacked on the spot.

Oh! & don’t presume you can speak for me or tell me how i should smoke a pipe, otherwise you’ll be invited to go piss up a rope!
