You guys notice the price hike of these blends. TP is asking for $17.98 for standard tin. Back in Jan of this year I was paying something like $13 at SP. That's a 36% jump. I know there is inflationary issues going on but that a crazy high jump. Is there some additional duty that has been levied that I am unaware of??

I'm going to have to pass at these rates. Ughhh!

Watch City had 50g tins of four different SG blends from this drop at $13.99, now OOS, but as I recall they had FVF and Squadron leader, can’t remember the other two. Emphasis on “had” and “now OOS.”

There have been lots of complaints about this SG shipment (all tins, no bulk) but I wasn’t looking for any SG, so I can’t speak from my own experience. Chris a Gawith said on Facebook a few days ago that bulk SG in new packaging- would be forthcoming “soon.”

It's good to hear they are working on new packaging. There are so many modern solutions like mylar, etc. They need to use something better than these weak square tins and thin cardboard boxes for their bulk.

I remember in 2009 SP had SG tins for $6.90. And back then nobody was charging any state sales tax on shipments. I still have tins of FVF, Best Brown, Squadron Leader and Skiff from those days.

The point I'm trying to make is that SG tobacco went up 36% in less than a year. Is this due to inflationary pressures or something else? Maybe it's a one off as I haven't seen as large a price increase other popular brands. It just an observation.

It's good for the value of my collection though. If you make 36% a year in the stock market you're doing very well. Who would have thought that tobacco can beat the S&P.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Anything known about this new box packaging? The new tins are a bust as far as the seal goes.

If I am going to guess, I would say that SG probably has little to do with prices at the retail level. The demand for this product greatly outweighs the supply, therefore they can raise prices knowing that it will still fly off the shelves. Isn't it the goal of capitalism to make as much money off a product as possible? Sure, a handful of people will bawk, and maybe not buy it, but regardless of your feelings, it could probably go up to $20+ and still sell out. And, it will eventually.

The real regulator is competition with other retailers. But, as long as they are going up in price also, they can manage being just a dollar or two more and still sell out. And, since this place is going up, it is safe to say that the other retailers can also go up in prices. Competition works both ways, especially in a niche market like this. Pricing defies the laws of capitalism. Your feelings about this are not of their concern. Sorry.

This was why I was surprised that the company said something on another thread about their lids... why even defend that shit, when people are going to buy it all out as soon as it comes in, regardless of whether the lids are sealed, or if they just sell it with any lids at all.
