I’ve only had a tin or two of SG that were pretty moist. I bought most of their blends in bulk so maybe that’s why I never got the sopping wet tobaccos they are infamous for? I always thought this was just hyperbole.

I thought this was no longer an issue with their current stuff?

Imagine a hypothetical world where the first tobacco you try is Samuel Gawith? Every newbie would be like, "How do I light this?" Yes, dry Gawith tobacco.

I smoke G&H plugs and apart from the lopsided dosing of the Rose Geranium topping I have always folded and stuffed.
meers old and new handle damp tobacco much better then briar. And with how old G&H is that might explain the moisture levels they use. Oh clay does too. Both the common pipe material of that time.

Lately, I think doing anything consistently for the SG guys is a challenge.
Really? I haven’t bought anything from them in years… I thought they were getting more consistent, upping their game… don’t know why, now that I think of it, I guess I read it somewheres. Or maybe I’m thinking of GH&Co. they got pretty new tins now!

Hmmm that’s an interesting thought. Does smoking moist tobacco color Meers quicker than dry tobacco? I would imagine the extra moisture would soak into the Meer pretty well.

I dry most all my tobaccos except Condor & St. Bruno. I smoke those right out of the pouch.

For SG flales, I picked up on a trick from Peck. I cube cut the flakes and let them dry till the feel dry on the outside, which is variable on times, because of ambient humidity. For me (In a very humid area of the world) that is usually a day or maybe a few hours on a coffee mug warmer. Then I close them back up in a container. This allows the moisture inside the cubes to equalize a bit, so that they aren't like crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. this works great.

But, even so, I sometime prefer to just go ahead and let them get a bit more crunchy. I love a dry smoke, and smoked slow, I find that I get more flavor. But, I suspect that everyone smokes differently, because many don't like them very dry. YMMV
I tried drying it for a few hours and it was good. I left some overnight and fell asleep before I had my evening bowl. I will try it out today and see how it goes.

Do you also smoke cigars? I am in a very humid part of the world now, and have been wondering how to go about aging some cigars I am going to get. Some nice Partagas Cuban maduro wrapped wonders...

I am merely a dabbler in cigars. I just put mine in a wooden humidor and don't worry much about it. But, if any get some age, it will be merely because I haven't gotten it yet.
