Try it if you like lager beer with body and taste. Much better than their regular beer which has too much taste. Far better than Budweiser. One good thing about Bud is that the bottles are now dated on the lower left of the label. Anything over 1 1/2 to 2 months is not good tasting. Bottled beer ages and becomes awful very quickly. Bar owners tend to take advantage of volume pricing and overstock. Draft, which is usually fresher and is kept refrigerated is far better if the bar has their beer lines cleaned professionally quite often.

I agree Foggy, I actually enjoy everything so far that Sam Adams people make. Also enjoy how they seem to fit the season pretty well for my taste.

Just for clarification I am pretty sure that Sam Adams Summer Ale is a wheat ale, not a lager. Although I also dislike Budweiser it is an unfair comparison. Sam's Summer Ale will taste nothing like a lager if you order it looking for that.
That being said you are spot on regarding beer freshness foggy!

Rick: I know as much about beer making as I know about computers--nothing. But I do know when something tastes good or bad. Thanks for the correction. We guys got to work as a team here.

No worries foggy! I agree! Just wanted to make sure everyone knew what to expect if they were ordering it for the first time.
I have that same theory on beer as I do pipe tobacco.... Drink whatever ya want as much ya want!!! As long as you're not driving! :D

You have to use a church key though
Roth, ya better explain to the young-uns just what a church key is. Else, they will never get one open

Regular Boston Lager tastes way different on draft than it does in the bottle. It actually has aroma when it's from a keg. I haven't tried the Summer Ale. Is it maybe comparable to the Budweiser American Ale? That stuff was actually good in small doses.
Roth: +1 to the Whitewater IPA, that stuff is excellent. It's crisp, that's for sure.
Lat: Noble Pils isn't a spring beer. It's available all year in most carry-outs, and it's their take on a Pilsner. It's not bad, but I'd like it more if it were in the green bottles to let some light in. Pilsner has a better flavor, and way more aroma when it's allowed some light. Like Staropramens; the definition of Pilsner IMO.

I've been mowing fields most of the day - a cold Sam's sounds really good about now. Think I'll get my honey, sit by the pool, have a cold one and smoke my Falcon tonight.

I don't think SA is a great beer, BUT had a SA lager draft this weekend & loved it! They pour enough to keep lines clean, in Blowingrock, NC

You have to use a church key though -- the brewer doesn't like twist-offs.
I'm too much of a bar nerd to use one... I used speed openers.
As for Sam's Seasonal ale I can only drink a few before it gets to be too sour for me. At that point I'll switch to something sweeter.

Around these parts (Pacific Northwest), Sam Adams isn't particularly popular, although you do sometimes see it. More popular are the craft beers & ales by the many micro-brewers around. Of course, Oregon does have more micro-brewers per capita than any other state. We do like our ales!
