I'm 46, single, retired and disabled (SSDI) after 25 years in the tattooing industry, doing my work was/is a joy to my heart; to provide a service which identifies a person's individuality - like my smoke, 1888 After Dinner is the sustenance my soul prefers. Like my tattoo logo, "Quick and Painless" I have not learned the value of taking the time to fill a bowl, tap it in and relax, instead I roll it up in paper, light up and enjoy.
The events leading to my discovery of this forum was to get proof for someone of the validity of "After Dinner" blend as I was taken aback when I asked a buddy heading into the big City, Salt Lake to pick me up a pound of the blend from a specific retailer. When he arrived to make the puchase, the shop worker, wanting to make a quick sale and not deplete the entire stock on hand said, "After Dinner" is just the tailing of everything else they have! Well, of course, I knew different and so I looked for it online and of course, it does exist. And my buddy brought me back some other stuff called work horse or such for $25 / lb. I became suspicious because of the price paid, rolled one up and almost barfed. Now I am not saying this horsie stuff is bad in fact I beleive pipe tobaccos to be a taste, acquired. The Horse Manure probably meets the standards of some folks but it sure was not After Dinner.
I live with a few other Grad students in the West Desert, unplugged, off-the-grid, doing independent study for my master's in Recreation Resource Management, College of Natural Resources, Utah State University near an ancient extinct volcano known as, "Fumerole Butte" a vertical lava flow (erupted under water) from the times of Lake Bonneville, an ancient lake which drained about 15,000 years ago. In a area taking up most of Central and Western Utah and Eastern Nevada, BYU Geologist's and a faculty of hundreds over a 30 year study concluded, and released to the press (ksl.com), the existance of a Super Volcano, twice the size of Yellowstone, just recently and now I am out here freezing and studying the soil, water and elements of the last remnants of this Super Volcano .... without my favorite blend. I will just have to make due, I guess with my smokeless tobacco which also finds a place in my soul where tranquility and peaceful nights admist the howling of coyotes can be heard for miles.
I have never used a pipe but my pops did, he liked the cavendish blends and on occasion I will treat myself to the memory of my Father by gracing my mucous membranes with the sweetness of this smoke. Until I have my After Dinner once again, please ask and inquire of any topic I may have struck curiosity, I know I will.
