Peterson Irish Flake.
It might be because it didn't have any age, it might be because I was totally new to the concept, but that stuff tasted like dirt and blew through my N tolerance pretty quick.

Now, since then I've learned it would take on a sweet hint if I let it sit for a year, but my backlog is big enough it's going to be a long time before I try that again.

Well, if you can get your writing itself to flow freely between fact and fiction, any of the major news outlets can use a man like you! Probably some money in that, if your stomach can take it.
Sorry to hear about your cruise on board Captain Black's hell ship, the Vanilla Vixen. Glad you survived, and welcome aboard!

I have a hard time smoking anything other than burley blends. Carter hall and Prince Albert are my favorites.
And...Yeah...My wife is unfortunately always right...about everything

Jeff it sounds to me like your wife is right about everything. Most just think they are. :nana:
Maybe you should listen to her about being a writer.

Jeffery, I really do enjoy reading your threads. You have a talent putting words together that is very entertaining. Hope to see more.
I don't smoke cherry blends very often, but because I did smoke some I liked but can't remember when I first started over 30 years ago, I was looking for one I could smoke and actually enjoy now. Unlike davet, I find GH Top Black Cherry one of the only two I seem to like out of all the cherry blends I've tried. The other being PS Cherry Bon Bon. I sure there's a number I missed trying, but I'm fine with these two, and don't feel like torturing myself experimenting anymore.
My nemesis tobacco is C&D Captain Bob's Blend. I have nothing but respect for Captain Bob, and I did a lot of reading for months about this blend because it just sounded so weird to me. It has latakia in it which I like but it also has an odd topping the tastes like Nehi Grape. I hated Nehi Grape when I was a kid, and still dislike artificial grape flavoring in just about anything. Now Welch's Grape Juice is fine, and I like eating grapes, and well there's also wine the best grape drink of all. This was not a particularly strong blend I was led to believe from all the reviews, and maybe it's not, but it hit me hard and I got real queasy quite quickly. And then I couldn't get that nasty grape flavor out of my mouth. I'm usually not a nic light weight if I don't smoke too much strong stuff, but this was just nasty to me. (maybe I'm allergic to grape flavoring) I will try it again sometime, but I'm about ready to gift it or I'll toss it, which I have never done to any tobacco, as it's using up valuable jar space...

Orley, I sympathize, sir. I have about 2 oz of Peterson's Sherlock Holmes that I can't seem to get through. I can't say I dislike all aros, per se, because I enjoy Frog Morton Cellar and Irish Oak... but something about heavily flavored toppings/casings just doesn't mesh with me personally. Grape tobacco sounds appalling!

I appreciate the story. Very amusing.
As a Black Seas tobacco mini review, I went through a tin of it awhile back and found just bland. It wasn't overtly offensive. It just didn't offer what I was looking for which is more flavor. It is a step up from the pouch blends, but with so many quality blends competing I can't find a reason to buy it.

I doubt my wife will allow any more nautically themed tobaccos in the house; it's going to be an endeavor to convince her into letting me try Black Frigate (chasingembers suggestion).

Royal Yacht. The first half of the smoke is very good. Then it makes me sick. I will dedicate my next smoke to you. Well written.

Unlike others, I've never been able to smoke Half & Half. Perhaps I smoked it wrong the first time around, but it left an indelible distaste in my mouth. Reminded me cat soaked dorm room furniture left to cure in a New York alley.
Ironically - I may be one of the few people who like a cherry; currently have a tin of Boswell's Cherry Smash.

Well written! Welcome to the forum! Cherry, aromatics, and I don't particularly care for Dunhill tobacco's. I think it's the Virginias. I always end up with a scratchy throat.

I've never smoked cherry anything but know beyond doubt that I will not like it. Fresh Rainier cherries are wonderful, Bing NO!!! Next would be goopy aros. I've always turned my nose up at old codger blends but so many extolled their virtues I finally tried PA, Granger and one other and just didn't care too much for them. I got some Carter Hall last week and was pretty impressed with it and have bought even more.

Kevin and Jeff maybe the two of you could agree to have Jeff write a story for the site. Kind of a trial run.
I can tell you I would eagerly read it and look forward to any future installments.

I've tried a couple of these well known heritage brands... nothing vile... in fact... some were good... but... I was wondering about Prince Albert... My poppop smoked that one... It always smelled good. I only find it in a $30+ can around here...I want to try it, I just don't want to spend $30. Anyone like Prince Albert?
