Sad end to Clay Pipe
Great shame my clay pipe broke today, snapped Like a biscuit. I don't know if smoking it every day made it brittle. But it just snapped. Great loss.

I will miss the 15 minute smoke I got from it.

That is sad. Nice looking pipe. I've always wanted a clay, but don't want a pipe I can't hold by the bowl when I'm not clenching.

Thank you for your view Orleans will give it a try, do you think over smoking caused it to become brittle? Or was it just bad luck.

I wouldn't think smoking caused it. People clean those things in ovens and with torches. Flaw in the clay perhaps?

I glued a 14" old German tavern pipe that was broken in two pieces, against my better judgement, and let it dry out for weeks, and I don't notice anything wrong with it at all. I figure it's fine..

Try a Lepeltier clay pipe. They have double walls with interspace in between and they don't get hot, you can definitely hold them as long as you want.

Look at old art. Clays were never meant to be held by the bowl.

I've glued the cooler end of a clay back on with Crazy Glue. It's not pretty, but I can still smoke it. Just let the glue do its work for a couple days before smoking it again.
On the other hand, a broken clay makes nice decoration ... (Sorry it happened, anyway. That's a fine looking clay.)
