For yourself, you did. But I think everything was clear already, and I think people will just have to decide for themselves. Those who didn't try the earlier version will decide for themselves whether or not they like Three Sails. Which is as it should be. Those who did smoke the earlier version can also decide for themselves. Which is also as it should be. I'll side with my experience and with Mark Ryan on this. He knows more than we do.

No, actually, there was some confusion as to whether I said the tobacco was not of quality, and whether I said it matched the quality of the original. This is a fine line between attacking the tobacco, and pointing out a discontinuity.

Again, only to your mind. You did say, "Three Sails has none of the curing of Three Castles, nor seems to me a leaf of the same quality." So you did question the quality of the tobacco, which made Russ' comments legitimate. And as Mark Ryan told me it was the very same tobacco varietals (which he was picking) and same processing (which he was doing), I'll say again he knows best. If you want to continue to argue that, well, go ahead. I've made my point, and you are entitled to yours. That ends this conversation for me.

No, I said it was not of the same quality, not poor quality -- as I said above. It is convenient for you to react with defensiveness, but it's a non-sequitur.
Look at it this way: tobacco can be in qualities of A, B, and C. If a new version of an old tobacco that was an A uses B-level tobacco, that does not mean it is bad quality, but it's not the same quality.
Here's the logic:
Faulty Comparison
If you try to make a point about something by comparison, and if you do so by comparing it with the wrong thing, then your reasoning uses the Fallacy of Faulty Comparison or the Fallacy of Questionable Analogy.
Example:
We gave half the members of the hiking club Durell hiking boots and the other half good-quality tennis shoes. After three months of hiking, you can see for yourself that Durell lasted longer. You, too, should use Durell when you need hiking boots.
Shouldn't Durell hiking boots be compared with other hiking boots, not with tennis shoes?

I am comparing two versions of a tobacco, not one version against all possible qualities of tobacco.

I wasn't defensive in the least, despite what you think. I have no need to be defensive over pipe tobacco, nor do most people. There are more important things to be concerned about in the world. I was stating a position, and you endlessly want to argue words, which is unnecessary. That's all.

I haven't tried Three Castles or Three Sails, so I can definitively say I don't know what either of them tastes like. I'm prepared to argue this point ad nauseum.
