Much better! What did you use for stain?

I used fiebing's black leather dye for the stain and currently finishing it with boiled linseed oil

I think the linseed oil is a good way to put a finish on this pipe. Wax will not easily creep into all the nooks as the liquid oil will. I don't know about affecting the taste, but then you're not finishing the inside of the bowl. Great job, BTW.
