It’s been a couple of months since I got Old Speedy, and I’ve sort of tried to reserve him so’s not to make him sour or get skunky.

Maybe I’ve smoked him a couple or three dozen times. Look how dark the pipe has turned.

I now own three other Marxman pipes the approximate size of Old Speedy, and roughly made on the same pattern.

The last one I got in is as pretty as Old Speedy is ugly.

The other three are dynamite smokers, above and beyond even most Marxman pipes, which are all extraordinary smokers, but nothing I’ve ever smoked comes up to the righteousness of Old Speedy, for smoking quality.

I feel really sorry for men who don’t own at least one big, chunky Marxman with a saddle stem.

Some things in life are like Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris.

Once you discover the best, you can’t go back.
