I'd apply the rum from a spray bottle. You don't want to marinate the leaf; that will take a long time to dry out and not smoke well nor taste good, I'd suspect. I'd start with a minimal amount of rum, on a few bowls of blend, and then apply a little more next time to compare the taste. There are so many good rum flavored blends, this seems unnecessary, except as a fun experiment.

Ya best to just spray it on don't need more than a teaspoon to a tablespoon for 50g of tobacco. It will need some serious dry time with a cup! I wouldn't jar it up while it's super wet for more than a couple days as you could run into mold issues.

Sometimes I'll spray some rum or alcohol on the tobacco and jar it up, then put it on a window sill for a few hours in the sun or somewhere really hot and let it heat up to penetrate the leaf better and then I'll take it to cool down for a couple hours or a day before opening to dry it out. The heat speeds up the process instead of waiting a few days or a week for the tobacco to get the flavours into the leaf.

Quite a bit of alcohol would extract certain properties of the organic matter and at the same time affect sugar in the fermentation proces

I’d be curious how it would play out.

you’d want to do this in both an anaerobic and aerobic environment to see the affects on the sugars in the tobacco.

Maybe talk with a tobacconist or even a biologist at a local college.
Please let us know the outcome.

I'd be very interested to find out how it goes! Although if I had to guess I'd say you might be disappointed in the results.

I half filled a large mason jar with PS Navy Flake. Nestled a shot glass about 1/3 full with rum into the top of the tobacco. Left it for about two years. The rum evaporated from the shot glass and was absorbed into the tobacco. Gave it a few hours of drying time before smoking. The jar note was excellent. The room note was great too. Only flavor that came through was in the retrohale. Smelled like rum. Did the same with Glenmorangie Lasanta. Was a fun experiment but not something I’d do often or on large scale.
