I am looking for a good rum/molasses/navy style tobacco to try. I got a can of C&D Black Frigate as the reviews said it was very good, rum and molasses hints. I get a nasty copenhagen tin note and am undecided if I would buy it again (doubt I would). I find it a bit bitter and spicy and not that pleasing, not terrible but not great. I am letting it dry out a bit to see if it improves some and may see what some age does.

I re-cased some old unknown house blend tobacco that was terrible, with rum and molasses and it came out amazing and smells great. My buddy recommended Backwoods Hot Buttered Rum but I can only find Half and Half and Capt Black locally here.

What do you smoke when you want that rum?

Thanks!

I love rum.

Tried Barbados Plantation. Didn't do it for me. Ended up giving it away after 2 bowls.

I've decided it's best to have a tot of rum and smoke a blend I really like.
Sometimes "the best of both worlds" just doesn't exist. ?
That works too! There are a myriad of great drink pairings, with all kinds of blends.

I was also going to suggest Peterson Connoisseur's Choice, but I'm inclined to avoid incurring the wrath of @Morrison Jeremiah ? :ROFLMAO:

You smoked it too fast.

Well remembered.
But for myself, I may have to join the Foreign Legion in order to forget the awful stuff ?

Very possible. I am working hard to take my pipe to the next level. I have been watching a bunch of muttonchoppipers videos on the breath method and sipping the tobacco, but have a ways to go.

My grandparents smoked cigarettes but not pipe, and stopped before I was born. I love old ways and have been trying to learn over the last 47 years. My trouble is I used to puff like a cigar, but slowing down is a game changer!

i have to say the cheap stuff I cased is amazing and you can taste the sweetness. I really like my english blends and hope to grow some Virginia this year. The Dunhill/Peterson 965 and GL Pease Quiet Nights are amazing!

I can not wait to try some of these suggestions! Thank You!

I highly recommend GL Pease Windjammer and Sextant. Really good stuff, especially Windjammer.

Lots of good recs here. Salty Dogs is great, McB navy flake is great, Redburn is great. Salty Dogs to me at least is probably the most rummy of those, but by far the hardest to find. Blockade Runner is a favorite for me, though it’s in Black Frigate, I like it better and it’s quite rummy- if you hate the Frigate you might not like it. Surprised no one mentioned C&D’s Speakeasy, that’s another fav for me.
