At first glance I thought. Brilliant design.
but after one smoke I see so many flaws.
I have been smoking some English Oriental all week. In various pipes. And it has been bliss.
so today I thought, let’s try that Bartlett that has been sitting there for months. I read a bunched. Then I packed it and lit it.
1. hard to light
2. Can’t tamp. Best you can do is compress from the top by opening lid.
3. where does al the moisture go? Has nowhere to escape. Yup. Condenses on the lid on top and drips on the tobacco and straight into the stem.

anyone else have one of these?

See, there is a design worse than this.

I think the simplicity of traditional shapes often captures a kind of perfection. Any gimmicks introduced to capture a new market tend to be clunkers. Not all, but most. People have been tweaking tobacco pipe designs for several hundred years, so coming up with a real improvement is quite a feat.

I work in the ancient trades and often have to contend with ideas (sometimes my own) that someone believes are an "improvement" to an item that had been made countless times and served countless people as it was.

The presumption that you can improve upon "big hole intersects little hole inside block" astounds me.

This whole post is written so well as a double entendre that I can’t tell if you’re a woodworker or an escort.

Ancient principles of joinery at work in either case.

Would it help if you drilled small holes in the cap? I cant see any in the picture.

If you are into it, It may be a good opportunity to experiment with air flow characteristics, especially if you are fed up with it, then there is nothing to lose. I would try 6 small holes close to the edges first and see what the result was. If you never find a solution you are happy with, at least you got to have some fun before tossing it.

Edit: I should have read about the pipe first, I didn't realize it had a screen in the bottom

They smoke from the bottom up. Would kind of be like drilling a hole in the bottom of a regular pipe.
Thanks for pointing this out, I wrote my replay and thought, I must be missing something, and read a reborn pipes article on them. I just assumed they got creative with the airway and the cap was like a hurricane cap with 2 layers like a saucer or something drawing air from the sides. I guess it would never gurgle  might spit back at you though

And in other news Boeing has announced plans to introduce new aircraft designs featuring concrete fuselages and cutting edge and eco friendly pedal action turbines and wings that actually flap!

Because ... winning?
