I just picked this up for $20.
I wonder how old it is? The bit seems orific.
Any bets on its size? ?

Cool band on that thing! I dig the shape and long stem. I have 1 made by the same company that's a vest pocket style shaped like a wooden clog?. Couldn't smoke it because it has a cork gasket that was torn when I got it. I hear they get pretty hot.

I honestly have no clue.
I think it may be a normal sized pipe based on seeing the band on a couple others. Or it may be tiny! That’s part of the eBay fun.

you can get adhesive backed cork.. I’ve got some somewhere.
I’m assuming I’d have to hold it from the stem. The band is sterling.

No idea how old it is, but Royal Goedewaagen is still in business.

I have been thinking of picking up two of these churchwarden clay pipes to hang up above the fireplace and to share a smoke when I've got friends over.

Using the wood grain and the saw blade pattern on the wood in the background I'm going to say its fairly small. Cool ebay find though.

I was eyeing up a Goedewaagen clay calabash last year, didn't pull the trigger though. I believe they have a double wall, which I'm guessing would help stop heat transfer, a bit like those Bodum glass coffee cups.

I do believe the one I posted is double walled but not ? on that.
The one you posted is for sure.
I think that one is still listed.

the one I posted seems to have a different type band than most I’ve seen and the stem opening is round rather than slotted. (Orific) Which makes me wonder if it’s old.

While Goedewaagen pipes were originally traditional and figural clays, after the invention of the double walled clay pipe by Zenith, also a Gouda company, Goedewaagen began producing pipes in that commonly seen style, which they marketed as The Baronite Pipe, advertised for its clean smoking and health benefits.

I'd be interested to hear if it is double walled when you get it, BROBS. The wall looks pretty thin to me. A bit like the wall of a ceramic coffee mug. It's an interesting piece.

Because of.the metal part of the stem I think it could be reasonably old. You could always contact Goedewaagen to ask.

I’m wondering if there is some type of proof mark on the silver that would tell me?

it could be single walled no idea at all! The only porcelain or ceramic pipes I’ve got are turn of the century German/Austrian.

I did a little research in Dutch and found the Dutch Goedewaagen Wikipedia page. You may need to use Google translate to get the full story.

The pipe may not be all that old I'm afraid. The company filed for admistration on the 1st of March 1983. Before that time they were known as Koninklijke Goedewaagen. Koninklijke (royal) is a designation for Dutch companies that have been in operation for more than 100 years. They lost the 'Koninklijke' designation due to filing for administration. The company was handed over a number of times since then and the name was changed to Royal Goedewaagen in 2007.

It is still possible that they stamped their pipes with Royal Goedewaagen for international sales before 2007. They would be quite popular souvenirs for people visiting the Netherlands I think.

It says they were only in Gouda until 1975 so this is most certainly pre-1975.
