One of my doctors is Chinese. He was originally from Taiwan and moved to the states and eventually became a US citizen years ago. He has family in mainland China.
He advised against buying any food product or anything else from China that might be put in your mouth. As he said "All they care about is money. They'll take any shortcut and you really don't know what you're getting."
I follow his advice on this.
