Funny, all of my post graduate degrees are from UA, but I have never watched a football game in my life. When Alabama plays, we use that time to go shopping. No waiting, no lines. You could walk naked through a mall or even down the road and no one would be there to see you. So... I wait till baseball season to do my naked shopping. puffy

You're assuming anyone would notice or consider it a "big deal". Not likely.

Why is their mascot an elephant tho? That’s the real question
Add in the the UA alternate is the Auburn Tiger with a damned eagle as their mascot, and you'll come to understand the nature of life, the universe, and everything. puffy
When you move to Alabama, you'll need to either pick a team, Alabama or Auburn, because that is the first thing anyone will ask you upon greetings. "What's your religion?" Which translates to which team? I am an adamant football agnostic.

Looks like you lost a lot of weight with that Vegan diet. Nice dog though.

You're welcome to your opinion. Obviously the cash is important but college sports is about far more than the cash.
Right, TV playtime too. ?

so, like, from your article: Alabama doesn’t truly have a team name or mascot besides what some guy in a newspaper called them once ?

not judging but what were they before?

You assume that every school starts off with a mascot...

That's one of the things that really bugs me. When a new high school opens up, it seems to be a bigger deal what the hell kind of animal suit some priss is going to wobble around a ball field in, than whether their kids will be able to get into a good college afterwards.

When we opened our new high school in town, they were going to use the hawk as theirs, because we actually have a ton of red tailed hawks everywhere here. But, they opted for the husky... like it ever even snows enough for a damned sled dog to feel comfortable in the deep south. Now, husky dogs are the number one pet here. And, you'll see all of the sad damned dogs in peoples' yards covered in artic fur in 100+F summers. It's f'n cruel. And, stupid.

Sorry, but was there a football game tonight?
I thought this year was.....but,....Covid.
Well, you're one up on me. I know nothing of football, so when I saw the thread headline: Roll Tide!; I thought it was Mike's ranting-space about how his septic system overflowed again, and flooded him out of his garage/smoke den. - Sherm Natman

Since my daughters moved to Louisiana, and her husbands family is all about the LSU Tigers, college football has intrigued me. The games seem to rarely have any defense and it's often a lop-sided score-fest, like last night. It also puzzles me that LSU fans rarely seem to have gone to that school. I could understand an alma mater allegieance. Here in Maryland, we have a lot of Maryland and even Penn State fans, but the level or enthusiasm pales compared to the rabid LSU fans (and I assume UA as well).
