Starting to Get Obsessed

I watched the National Championship with great glee. I despise Alabama and have done so since I was a small boy, learning at my father's knee, but, for me, there is never a day where I want to see a team from the "Big" 10 prevail. Growing up, we, Southerners, suffered a never ending parade of television dimwits, sports-writer crackpots, and outright haters droning on and on about the "Big" 10 being the greatest football conference in the nation.

What utter rubbish. Since 1930, that's 90 years for those keeping score, the "Big"-10 is 66-98-2 against the SEC. In only two of those decades (1930s & 1970s) did they have a winning record against the SEC. In the last 50 years, the "Big"10 is a whopping .388 against the SEC and the numbers get more disparate the tighter you focus the time span. For all Southerners who follow the greatest game ever invented and we all do, there are few joys as great as seeing the "Big" 10 go down in a heap.

Notre Dame and Southern Cal are also on the list to be despised for being consistently over-rated, molly-coddled, and generally a nuisance, but, their sins are covered in a different sermon.

For those of you outside the South or the United States, this may seem like a lot of partisanship for college sports, but, here, it is no trifiliing matter. Let me assure you, families have been split asunder, feuds begun, and entire communities wrecked by the ebb and flow of gridiron fortunes in Southern college football. In the South, college football is not a matter of life or death. It's much more important than that.

I tip my hat to the gang from Tuscaloosa. They dismantled Ohio State and crushed the hopes of the "Big"10. For that service alone, they deserve a trophy. It pains me greatly that my team, the great and honorable Bulldogs of Georgia, was not there instead, but, I take great comfort in knowing that tomorrow the campaign begins anew and we are all undefeated.

Cheers,

Chili

It's always amusing listening to Vanderbilt, Dawg, Cock, Vol or ANY Mississippi School chanting SEC SEC SEC like their school has won something this century. lol

The Transitive property does not apply to Football.

For real. Any winning /losing this year is sort of a moot point. Shows that it’s all about the cash.

It's only about the cash if you wish to look at it that way. Quit being such a freaking Debbie Downer. If you'd eat a big juicy bloody steak instead of munching on green stuff like a rabbit, you'd have a more positive outlook.

I am but my company has an office in Birmingham, AL. Spent a fair amount of time there in the past 12 years. I like it there and love the enthusiasm for Alabama football. I've become a fan myself.
It’s all they’ve got down there bro

kind of like all the Iowa fans who never even went to any college, let alone University of Iowa.

If it wasn’t about the cash they would have washed this year and just started next year. They needed that income so who cares the price? Just a microcosm of our problems.

Don't go to the Dark side...

Hard not to tip your hat to Bama. An absolute Dynasty.

Can't wait until Saban retires and Dabo makes the jump. We may have a chance then. lol

Funny, all of my post graduate degrees are from UA, but I have never watched a football game in my life. When Alabama plays, we use that time to go shopping. No waiting, no lines. You could walk naked through a mall or even down the road and no one would be there to see you. So... I wait till baseball season to do my naked shopping. puffy
