There were a couple of "Rockabilly" artists that I enjoyed years ago (both are named above). I'm pretty much a "honky-tonk" guy myself. And, I'm stuck back in the 50s and 60s with respect to my music tastes. This generation's and the last's country is much different from my generation's. Excepting, of course, a few performers and bands which emulate the sounds of the "good old days."

Love me some Rockabilly. I was the pro audio guy (supplied equipment and operated it) for a number of rockabilly festivals in the mid-90's, including the James Dean Weekender. The festival tracks on this record were mixed from my board tape:

Just when you thought that cranky old repair dude had run out of surprises, huh?

Yes! Johnny Burnette and the Rock and roll trio and Joe Clays records are some of my favorites!

I've grown fond of Elvis' debut album, which I had more or less ignored in my youth. That counts, right?

I'm a big Wanda Jackson fan (her new stuff with Jack White is outstanding).
In this video, from 1958, check out her fiddle player (tall Platinum blonde). Her name is Rose Lee and she grew up in my small Maryland town. Her husband is the double-neck guitar player in the Nudie suit. This past August, in Nashville at the Country Music Hall of fame we bumped into her. They were session players for close to 40 years and played with everyone. She's in her 90's now but still works 3-4 hours a day at the HOF (she is also in the HOF). Her husband passed away. I just happened to catch her hometown on her name badge and started talking to her, then remembered her story in our local paper a few years back. She was thrilled someone remembered her.

Good that this thread was revived. The Wanda Jackson update is much appreciated. She was quite the looker in her younger days!
