I was fooling around taking some pipe pics today while smoking in the garage today and snapped this picture of my collection of Laughing Moon Pipes by Robert Vacher. Up front I will say that I've known Robert for almost 10 years and he is one of the funniest and kind people I've ever known. Bob makes some excellent smoking, affordable pipes and even the esteemed Greg Pease has praised his work.
I got my first pipe (billard top-center) from him almost 10 years ago and it has been one of the heaviest smoked pipes in my collection since then. The reverse calabash (bottom-center) I just picked up at the Chicago show and I've just fell in love with smoking this thing. Proportionally the reverse calabash seems a little strange but the cooling chamber he's drilling is HUGE! This thing smokes very cool and it's surprisingly light as well. I'm really liking the effect it has on the flavor of the tobacco, it's been interesting revisiting blends thru this pipe.
Hope you enjoy checking these out. Cheers!

Jazz bass huh?

God rested on the 7th day because he and Leo made the J Bass on the 6th....and it was good.
Honestly P basses come and go but I always have a Jazz Bass around. I'm getting ready to build another P Bass, I have a Lollar P pickup waiting in my parts drawer.

LEO GOT IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!

So your saying Leo got it right with the '51 single coil, tele style P? Or do you mean his SECOND bass the split coil P ('57-"58?)...Third times the charm. The J. :) I love me some P Bass but I cut my teeth on a J. Can't live without that growl.
Had Fralins P's and J's and they sounded great but the windings on my J's came loose during gig. It sounded like a bass drum when my finger would tap the p/u cover. They rewound them and they still had loose winding sticking way out from the rest of the coil. Sent them back and again, random loose wires. I like the Lollar's construction (potted and pickup tape) and midrange is a little more present. Jason is a good dude as well.

Is this turning into talkbass.com?
