Hello friends. Good time. I'm sorry if my English is poor. I recently bought Robert McConnell - Pure Perique tobacco, but after opening the lid of the can, I noticed the white particles that are visible in the photo. I was worried if this tobacco is damaged? The can was sealed, but I'm a little suspicious. The paper on the tobacco was very wet. I hope that with your help I can be sure of the health status of this tobacco. thank you

Looks like It could be salt crystals too. Do you have a means of providing higher resolution, higher magnification images?

Yes, it is exactly like salt crystals. My friend also observed the same situation after opening his tobacco can! And he did a taste test and noticed the salty taste! What does this mean?

I've seen crystals like this on Kolhase & Kopp products as well. On the paper insert. I can scrape some off this evening and take microscopic images tomorrow at the lab to have a better look.
Considering the number of purchased cans that have this condition, I would be very grateful if you could help me and my friend regarding the health or contamination of these tobaccos.

Assuming that your crystals and mine are similar, I hope I can bring you good news. I am happy to help!

Looking through my tins I now recall that Russ Ouellette's Acadian Gold, one of my all-time favorites, has lots of these crystals. Perhaps not coincidentally it too is a Perique process tobacco, albeit with Virginias as the base. The tobacco and the paper both have lots of crusty crystals.

Did I understand your meaning correctly that this situation is probably due to the presence of Perique and it can be normal? And is it not a sign of corruption or fungus and mold?

Thank you and I am waiting for your good news😅😅
Yes I have [good] news for you. It will take a little time to write it up, as there are photos and lots of text. Later today I will post my findings, though as you're apparently 8:30 hours ahead of my time zone, it may be a little late in your day. 👍
