Road trips this past year from central ohio.. (I'm retired) Nashville, UP, Gettysburg, Snowshoe area in WV. We spend Jan - mar just south of Juno beach. Love roaming the Lake Okeechobee area.
I think I remember seeing the signs for this town. I think west Texas is beautiful and always enjoy the long landscapes. It’s kind of a shame they’ve been ruined by those ubiquitous windmills now.I got one for you Sam. If you just got back from NM, chances are you drove right by it.
A few years ago I took my daughter on a road trip to west Texas. You'd think not much to see but you'd be wrong. Driving I-10 out to Pecos Texas and just west of Pecos is a little town called Toyah.
Kevin Costner shot the opening scenes of a movie (Fandango) there in the old school house. Nearby, they shot some other scenes at a fictious restaurant "Chata Ortegas". It was part of the movie set they built just off interstate 10. I can't remember if it's before or after Toyah, but you can see the remains from the interstate. Park on the side and walk to it. There are some other movie locations nearby.
Anyway, we continued on to Marfa and stopping at the McDonald observatory, which I highly recommend. That area is more like Colorado than Texas. We had such a wonderful time. Great memories. Road trips are the best.
Here's a video of "Chatas" and the school house:

There's something special about west Texas, can't put my finger on it, but it's different. Yeah, the windmills... sighI think I remember seeing the signs for this town. What bands? Bad Brains, Black Flag, Misfits, Ramones, and Minor Threat are my standard punk fare. Face to Face and Rancid are more modern classics.
