I'm Catholic now, but was raised by very fundamental Christian parents, (which explains why I'm not in prison). They loved Billy Graham and later, all the newer tv "Evangelists". The new breed all seemed to fall to life's temptations and disgraced. Thankfully, Billy never seemed to have any skeletons in the closet. In the recent season of "The Crown", he was depicted in one episode and seemed to have a big effect on Queen Elizabeth (and in real life).

He was anti-Semite who called Jews "Satanic."
He suggested that AIDS was god's punishment for homosexuality, was a proponent of "gay cure" therapy, and allegedly said, "“All homosexuals should be castrated”.
He wanted to use nukes in Vietnam.

Again, it's amazing how similar hobby forums are. Other forums have the same RIP Billy Graham thread. And of course, there's always some classless person who craps in the thread. I guess people are universal regardless of the hobby. :(

I think it's amazing that people still don't understand that not everybody thinks like they do, just because we all smoke pipes. I just posted some facts about the man. If you agree with his stance on these issues, it shouldn't be seen as crapping on the thread. If you don't, pointing out these beliefs shouldn't be a problem. I recall similar debates about Hugh Hefner.

That this is not the place to post your negative views eludes you doesn't it? Start another thread if you must post your views. RIPs are for respects nor disrespects. You are certainly entitled to your perspectives and to post such. Proper time and place should be a consideration. You are certainly not the only member who takes an RIP post to go negative. I simply think certain social norms should prevail.
Do you show up a funerals to air negative views of the deceased? My guess would be ...

For what's it worth, I don't agree with some things Billy Graham has said, but this is a memorial thread for people to give their best wishes, not a platform for you to air your indignation. The thread isn't about you and it's simply classless to come here and crap on his grave and the people expressing good wishes.
Hopefully the mods will delete your posts, as well as mine, and let the thread get back to it's original intent instead of getting closed down like I've seen in other hobby forums.

A memorial thread is a memorial thread. We already know that no man is perfect. I have nothing but respect and love for Billy Graham and that is what this thread is about.

Well, apologies if I hurt anyone's feelings. I didn't realize that it's okay to mention the demerits as well as the merits of some recently deceased public figures (like Hefner) but not others.
warren - I didn't post negative "views". I posted facts about the man, on a public forum about pipes (not a Christian forum). Which is very different from going to his funeral and airing negative views.
oldtoby - you are way the hell out of line. Personal attacks are against forum rules. Posting facts about a recently dead celebrity are not.

Come on boys knock it on the head will you. As a Catholic I have a lot of time for Grahams pastoral work. In the old days the best pastoral priests were the Irish who went out and took the rough and tumble of preaching the good book. Graham was in a class of his own, not always to my taste but he helped a lot of souls and for that he should get a good seat when he arrives upstairs.

I sort of agree with the views that Lazar stated Graham stood for, but I have no clue if that was fact.

A RIP thread doesn't guarantee anything, so go easy on him. (remember the RIP for Charlie Manson, not much love there)

However, no matter our dissenting views, calling someone names is not tolerated, so that comment was deleted.

I'm sure that as a Christian, Billy Graham loved everyone, even those who hated him. Lets behave similarly.

When you deliberately post something to rile the people in a thread you really should not be surprised or offended by the backlash.

I was raised as a Christian, and I was taught that there was only one perfect man to have walked this earth. That man tried to to teach us that we should love all people, no matter what. Even imperfect preachers and people that deliberately post things to rile the people in a thread. So remember this;
“I love you, and there is nothing you can do about it!”

Well, you would suppose someone had to shit in here. That's ok, we all have opinions. No offense Lazar. State your opinion, it's yours to own. And that's OK.
I would also suppose the Jews that Billy really was fed up with was the self hating progressive type. But that's his heart, and only him and God can answer those questions. I'm not into this hand seeeping all whites are racist, all Evangelicals are ignorant bigots, all Mexicans are illegal, Everyone that voted for Trump is a White Supremacist, All blacks that voted for Obama were awaiting a pay back for the Civil War, etc.... That's a lot of stress to put on ones self.

perdurabo, it was the alleged Jewish bankers and pornographers he didn't like. To his credit, he did apologize profusely later.
As for self-hating Jews, I thought that was a term reserved for the likes of Stephen Miller and Jared Kushner.

Sounds good to me. I heard that Billy Graham secretly enjoyed the music of Slayer. Can anyone confirm?
And as someone who has encountered Jewish self-hatred, it's a waste of your time. Be happy being who you are. Visit or move to Israel. It'll cure you.
