I came to SNL in the John Balushi and Dan Ackroyd era, and it was a Saturday night ritual, always a little rough around the edges and somewhat hit and miss, but often brilliant and very funny. It's become a sort of industrial media machine and producer of mega buck performers if not always great comedians. They still discover major talent, but the important thing is to leave the show while the getting is good and find your career elsewhere. But, as the old Bob Hope song went, long before SNL ever hit the airways, or TV ever came and to some degree went, "Thanks for the memories."
