Murray Walker, or 'Muddy Talker' as he was fondly known in these parts has passed aged 97.

Commentator of the fast paced sport since 1949 he will be missed by the drivers (with whom he had a great rapport) and the average Formula One fan who listened to him on both radio and TV.

Regards,

Jay.

Jay-

When did he stop broadcasting- or did he die with his boots on. I.a.e., may he rest In peace in the big pit stop in the sky.

Not too much longer for some Formula One racing!

Erratrum: Jay, is the use of "passed" for someone dying in common lingo in England? I thought it was a California thing. (Also, "passed on") I grew up with few euphemisms, so I say "died" or "killed", depending on the circumstances.

Up here we would say passed away rather than just passed but there’s probably a lot of regional variance.

He’ll definitely be missed. Great commentator and character.

John, he hung his microphone up about 10 years ago if memory serves.

And yes, passed/passed on is a regular euphemism for died over here. There are many more such as kicked the bucket (not appropriate here), fell off his perch etc.

Regards,

Jay.

RIP .. he was before my time, but I did see some old recordings on you tube with him commentating... he was quite emblematic.
