The Monkees were what introduced me and my contemporaries to all things American when they burst onto the TV screens over here.

It took a while for much of it to sink in to us kids but they were great fun to watch on a Saturday morning.

One interesting snippet, Michael Nesmith's Mother is said to be the inventor of Tipp-Ex, known as White Out (I think) in the States!

RIP Mr. Nesmith.

Regards,

Jay.

Liquid Paper - yep, he never had any financial worries!

Last Train to Clarksville one of my all time favorite songs!

Darn, not what I wanted to read on a Saturday morning. I was very young but remember them on TV, then I had to start Saturday morning bowling leagues and good-bye cartoons and such during that season, lol, so frozen out of my Saturday favorites during a certain time of year for several years. Dumb, but kind of fun shows. No Johnny Quest, though!

Yes-he was the "real deal." I remember reading an article on him in the magazine, "Guitar Player," many decades ago. He was quite the guitarist; although perhaps not another Chet Atkins, but quite accomplished nonetheless. RIP Mr. Nesmith.

That TV show was both a blessing, launching the group's career, and a curse, type casting them as a totally commercial, somewhat artificial boy band. But they were talented and dug their ways out of it, and probably never would have had the careers they did without the TV show. Like everyone's career, a series of tough choices.
