How very sad. The Band was so great. What a collection of talent, taste and intelligence. Much too much sadness as well unfortunately. My favorite Band track is "Whispering Pines" with that beautiful and aching vocal by Richard Manuel (words by Robbie music by Richard) , Garth's shimmering organ playing and the call and response with Richard and Levon. Gets to me every time.
Very sorry to hear it. Another significant marker of the passing of an era.

Yep. I'd encourage anyone who hasn't (I suppose there are some) to watch and read up on "The Last Waltz" just as an introduction - you'll probably want to explore further after that!

Come to think of it, did any members of The Band smoke a (tobacco) pipe, at least at some time? Something vague makes me think one or more of them might have. Levon Helm, corn cob? Unsure. Could be wrong. Anyone?
I've had the Big Pink album for years, but I never looked at the names of any of the members. There are a couple of really good songs on that album, but nothing ever stood out to me as phenomenal. I do like to pull it out to listen from time to time.

There are some really sad stories that came out of this group of fine musicians. Some really wonderful music and influence on others also. Part of the sound track of my life. RIP Mr. Hudson
