Just like most of you, I browse through different website's "estate" sections for a good deal or just something that I've never seen. So here's my question, Why are there so many estate cobs?? Is there a market for these? Please understand, I love a good cob. Am I not seeing some benefit? If a brand new pipe costs the same as a used one, why pick the used?

I have always assumed that people selling “estate cobs” don’t know anything about pipes. ?‍♂️ Have you looked to see if these sales are ever completed?

I will never buy a used cob. I like making them look used by myself. I did however get a cob as part of a lot, that I kept. I plan on giving it a hard wood plug and a new stem.

I bought a smoked cob once because it was tricked out with a bamboo shank and a vulcanite stem. It looked like it had been smoked maybe once or twice, so a good score for 5 bucks. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I seem to remember that fishnbanjo smoked some 100 year old cobs that he really loved. I assume he didn't buy those new. So it's not totally unheard of. :sher:

they let babies buy cobs, tobacco, or cocaine back then so who is to say if he bought them new or not.

Not only are there crazy people buying absurd things, but when I see listings for things I have some knowledge about, and people bidding on them, I just want to shout, "Don't you people know how to comparison shop?" :ROFLMAO: I used to work with a woman who had an eBay shop reselling things she got from Target or WalMart - things readily available brand new, in stores or online - and she would list them as "antique" or "collectible" or similar line of hyperbole. She actually sold most of her listings profitably to people who could have gone to almost any big-box retailer and picked them up for less. Madness.
