I recently acquired an old Pete 307 that's been mothballed for a number of decades and the shank on the bowl was plugged tight with 'crud'; tar and old fluid from past usage. I put some alcohol down the stummel and let is sit for about 30 minutes and it was tight.. "like a frogs ass underwater; watertight". I used the drill that is with my reamer and I located the hole that goes into the bowl and with some slow turning of the bit it finally broke through the 'crud' and got into the bowl, however the drain-trap that drops down into the pipe bowl body to retain liquid is also solid with the same crud. Does anyone have any sage advice on how to get that cleaned out. I don't want to put too much pressure on the drill bit to try and drill into it for fear of doing some real damage. I thought maybe letting the alcohol just sit in there for a while and then see if softens up any. I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Alcohol should soften it up a lot.
Yeah. Dig out what you can with dental picks or the like. I will stuff cotton in a well , soak with alcohol and see what it wicks up. Usually quite a bit. Do that until not much comes out. Swab it with alcohol q-tips to get the last bit.

After the soak, if you can scrunch up a paper towel down into the stump with a drill bit (I use the reamer bit on my Senor Reamer), than twist it around, do this several times till the paper towel comes out unstained. Try not to get the paper towel stuck in there!
