I like Cannon Plug but it will definitely ghost a pipe with repeated smoking back to back, like most Lakelands will. It's to be expected.

If it's only one bowl of Cannon the next bowl of something else will exorcise the ghost. I enjoy smoking something relatively plain that will benefit from the lingering remains of the ghost.

The dessert analogy is spot on.

Somehow I hadn’t heard of RB Plug. Sounds intriguing. I’ll have to get some, especially since it’s a plug and should hold onto the essence.

I don’t smoke Lakeland blends often but there’s nothing else that will scratch that itch when it arises. Kind of like when you want a super peaty scotch.

I’ve heard a fair bit about this RB plug, but I ain’t had the chance to try it for myself. Given the way things are goin’, it don’t seem like I’ll get the chance anytime soon, neither. If I’m understandin' it right, it’s got the body of a Full Virginia plug. Now, if that’s the case, I reckon GH ain’t gonna be puttin’ it out with their new “business mindset.”

1. Full Virginia plug already sells just fine as it is.
2. Addin’ flavorin’ would just hike up the production costs.
3. If you listen to GH, they’ll tell ya it don’t sell well.
4. Even if it did show up on Smokinpipes, I reckon it’d fly off the shelves faster than a rattlesnake’s strike.

It was posted In an earlier thread that Gawith & Hogwarts had ceased production of RB Plug. I don't know if that applies to the U.K as well. Given the changes at the FDA and the various government priorities I don't know how important the war on tobacco is to the current administration. I have always been led to believe that if you order enough of something from G&H they might consider making a batch up for you.

RB plug was discontinued quite a while ago.
And no we do not make batches of something if someone orders enough.
Every tobacco produced has to be registered, paid to be so and paid to be kept so.
We have to do this in the UK to manufacture it and then in many countries, the distributor there has to be pay to register it to sell it.
We only make what is on the current production list.
We only sell to retailers and wholesalers in the UK and to a specific distributor for each country outside the UK.

Well, that makes perfect sense…

I may be incorrect, but at some point in the past I think I recall you writing something along the lines of if an importer didn’t carry a certain tobacco it could possibly be put into production if they were able to place an order of sufficient volume to justify said production…

Perhaps it was misread or misinterpreted at the time.

But it certainly wouldn’t make any sense to spend capital for a non existent product in order to maintain licensing, taxing, or whatever other regulatory issues need to be met.

Me, I just buy and smoke the stuff. I don’t pretend to have any insight into the ins and outs of the tobacco manufacturing business.

I’m just glad you go through all that trouble so I don’t have to… 😉

I find cannon plug, Grousemoor and Ennerdale all to be of the same bent flavor wise. If you like one, you should like the others. None of them have a discernable rose geranium note (e.g., Kendal flake, Bosun plug, etc.), which I find to be more polarizing.

You keep bringin' up this "production list" but I gotta say, I ain't seen hide nor hair of it on your website. If it's out there somewhere, where might a humble soul like me lay eyes on it? Might clear up a whole mess of confusion.
