In 2008, on a trip to Dublin for an Irish Studies conference, I wandered into Peterson's pipe shop on Nassau Street and, on a whim, purchased a Sherlock Holmes sandblasted Deerstalker. I smoked G.L. Pease Fillmore and Westminster that I picked up back home from my local B&M in it for a couple of years while in grad school but put it away when I moved from the Midwest to the Northeast for work.
Recently, while I was back home visiting my folks for the holidays, I was reminded of it when my dad was smoking a cigar. The instant he lit up I missed my old pipe dearly. So, when I got back to NY I dug it out of the closet and jumped on YouTube to see what folks had to say about contemporary tobaccos. I watched a dizzying amount of reviews across YTPC and decided to pick up a tin of Peterson's Elizabethan Mixture and My Mixture 965. I've been enjoying both, but my palate is pretty basic at this point. Looking forward to developing some more nuance as I tour a wider variety of blends. Good to be back.
