Hi everyone,
Bit of a rant so grab a bowl or scroll fast.

It's been about 4-5 years since I left the regular piping hobby, life got busy and then my wife got seriously ill so that took centre stage. I won't get into details but all the troubles have been kicked into submission for a little while now, and I'm back enjoying a relaxing pipe here and there and curious what I've missed and how bad it's become for us all... And it's looking bleak unfortunately.

I hail from the country that loves taxes but hates everything nicotine related, aka Australia.
I started down the rabbit hole back in 2011 when my wife bought me a Barling Bent Dublin, some Erinmore mixture and some DrPat Irish Mixture.

From then until mid-late 2016 I acquired some second hand pipes here and there, to be honest I'll have to get them all out of the packaging etc from our move before I can honestly say how many and what types, but there's around 12 from memory.

My tastes vary a fair amount and I happily go between Va's and Bur's into Aro's, just depends on the day.
Latakia is off the cards for me though, that's one I can't do unfortunately.

I think that's enough ranting for now, hope you all enjoy the weekend and catch you around the forum's.

Thanks for the welcomes folks.
@TheIronMonkey thanks, we are too.

@agnosticpipe nothing wrong with hill-billies, good folk that know how to have fun hehe.

@OzPiper north of the border from you now days mate.

When I started this hobby we'd not long moved south of the border from you, I joined here and... another forum, but I've been absent too long it seems, on many accounts.
Border closed on importing toby was secretive and a big kick in the teeth when I went to make a long overdue order on SP back in December, some of the extortion I could handle if we had a good selection like the rest of the world, but they mute that too.

We have small acreage in a good climate, with the view of increasing, I'd grow my own if I had viable seeds lol.

They don't like anyone having fun so enjoy what you can while you can folks.

Welcome to the forum, from Southern California. It would seem that your region and mine are in a constant battle for the "Most Fascist" award. I wish one would finally emerge victorious over the other--said battle is quite taxing on one's psyche, not to mention one's wallet.

Enjoy the journey!

Welcome aboard from central North Carolina, U.S. You were wise to keep your pipes. Most of us lay off pipes at various points in life, and it makes sense to keep at least a rotation and a few blends. I did, and I have the first pipe I ever bought more than forty years ago, and it still looks and smokes great.

@mso489 I didn't get rid of a thing, it got prepped and stored knowing all too well I'd return at some point, it's far too relaxing to sit with a cuppa, a bowl and listen to the wildlife. Everyone needs a destress function, I wasn't loosing mine lol.

When I first started this hobby I was on the stinky sticks, which muted so much, I finally got rid of those horrible things in 2014 and naturally my taste changed but the hiatus 2016-2017 to now has been big, I'm tasting a lot of it differently again and some tobacco is a whole new experience.
Firedance is a big one, I never got the spice much originally, but now it's upfront and very much present... and goes well on a cold night with a peated scotch.

I'm still a bit of a fiend for the ODF though, It's often a decision of I'll pack some ODF or 🤔.

Stay safe and happy piping folks
