It would be a shame to have to return such a fine looking pipe (and I'm not into sandblasts). That's a keeper for sure. I'd see if you can have them replace the stem.

As an amateur pipe restorer, I would think that type of problem would be easily noticed. My business name also would be worth a bit more to me than a lot of inconvenience plus 1/2 the cost of a cheap stem replacement. I have purchased a few pipes from that retailer so I know they tend to shoot pretty straight most of the time but I guess this is not one of their best moments.

Against all of your wise advice, I've decided to keep it. Like it too much, price was decent, and if I have to get a new stem.....well its not the end of the world. I could get a new cumberland stem.....kinda want one of those :)

I really like these guys, but I've had 2 tobacco mistakes.....including some aromatic in a ziplock bag labeled "McClelland 2015", and now this pipe thing. Both tobacco issues were immediately resolved and I kept the old stuff.....I'm just starting to wonder if they are getting too busy and making honest mistakes.
I think I have one more good order of tobacco in me before I sort of "coast" for the fall and winter. I'm heavily debating taking that business elsewhere.

Keep it! You you love the pipe, just get a new stem. That is thin though, but just smoke it untill it breaks!
