I just recently transferred to North Central NJ, and I went looking for a local shop that I found through this site. They had hardly any pipes, and a pitiful supply of pipe tobacco. They had a sizable room for their cigars, though. The most amazing part, for me, was a closed room with tables and chairs, a TV, which was called a "tasting room." A sign was posted on the doors to the room stating that to use the room, you had to buy a cigar, smoke it on the room, and after you were finished, if you wanted to stay in the room, you had to buy another cigar. I've been to shops is TN, VA & PA, but this was a whole new world for me. The guy behind the counter said that, on the name of the "Code" they couldn't call it a smoking room or anything like that. I'm sure that's why the room is closed off. Just for my general info, can anyone here fill me in on the state of smoking and tobacco here. I know I'm close to the City which bans large soft drinks, but how repressive is it here?

I'm thinking Ashes and Embers in Somerville. The New Jersey Fellowship of Pipe Smokers meets at JR Cigar in Whippany on the second Thursday of the month 6-9pm. There are no restrictions or requirement to buy when using their lounge/bar. All are welcome to join us.

Yeah, Ashes 'n' Embers, Somerville. I'll have to see how far Whippany is from me. Thanks for the help. I live in Dunellen. I'd love to hook up with a club while I'm here!

Greentree in Deptford also has a private, members only smoking room (cigars or pipes). That is the store owners choice, not any state restriction (that I'm aware of). They do have a small area for smoking, non-club members.

@keith929: I hit Smoker's Haven this afternoon - 'twas a pretty good place. They were having a sale on Peteersons, so I picked up a 2012 Christmas Pipe, some baccy, & a new lighter. Thanks again for putting me on their track. I still want to get over to JR Cigar and the pipe fellowship if I can!
@papipeguy: Yeah, I finally got my bishop to let me go on sick leave to get my health on track a little better; I went to stay with a brother and sister-in-law in VA Beach for about 7 months. Our bishop got promoted to archbishop in Pittsburgh, and one of my friends got promoted to Administrator of our Diocese, and needed some help as he tries to hold down his rather large parish as well as the diocese, so I moved up here to Central NJ, near Metuchen, where Fr. Mike once served. So, yeah, TV and Allentown are a closed chapter in my journeys, but who knows what the future holds.

I'm glad you enjoyed Smoker's Haven. I should have warned you about the Peterson's sale but I'm evil like that.

Smoker's Haven is my go to B&M in this area. I'm working my way through all their bulk blends.
