I'm not your man for advice. I have sanded down a few, stained a few and screwed up a few. :(

There is a thread here somewhere about shinin' up stem. You might check out the three "stickies" at the top of the page here-- http://drgrabows.myfreeforum.org/forum12.php

Here is a short list mate, but don't take my advice on the method, to each his own,
Lots and lots of pipe cleaners

Alochol, Whiskey, Rum, Everclear etc (you decide. I like drug store 92% ; basically rubbing alochol)

Cotton balls or salt

Reamer(optional)

Dremil tool(optional, for opening bore)

Multi functional pipe tool

I use: 600, 1500 grit wet paper

Micro mesh pads

Wax (you will have to decide what you like, many like carnuba, paragon. I like Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Stem oil or wax(once again i like Olive Oil)
If you have just these materials, you can do a fine job.

There are many more materials you can have and or use. This list is just basic
