Restoring Meers?

I have been restoring briar pipes using the cotton ball/alcohol treatment and then using bleach on the stems when needed (I avoid this until all else does not work though). I was wondering though as I heard that you restore meerschaums differently than briar pipes how one would go about doing so? Fred, maybe you can shed some light on this topic? I know that it vaguely said something in one of the articles on how to care for them but I was wanting more of a VERY detailed instruction set on how to restore meerschaum pipes.

I wish I could help with your question... but repairing anything much less a Meer is pretty much out of my league... in fact if it can't be fixed with duct tape and a pair of vice grips... I am pretty much out.

For over 2 years, the All Things Meerschaum Group on Smoker's Forum

has dealt with this issue at great length. I suggest that you join SF

and then join the ATM, which is a Public Group that requires no invitation.

There's a good couple of hours reading in the sticky threads alone and the

current membership of 296 is great resource. This is a group where we all

learn from each other & worth the time to read what's been written.
