So I present to you my restoration of this antique store find from a few weeks ago, a Savinelli Root Briar Capri 115 KS. It was in good conduction when I got it with the two main issues being the ghost of aromatics and oxidation if the stem. I reamed as much of the original cake off but there still remains a good amount. I just don’t have a reamer that can fit the large chamber but I’m ok with what is left. I cleaned the interior of the shank and stem with 90% Iso and finished with a bourbon clean. To fully clear the ghost I’ll probably break it back in with Five Brother's for the first five or ten smokes. I wiped down the exterior with a cleaning solution. The stem I hand sanded stating at 400 grit and finishing at 12000 going up pretty much all the numbers. I did bitch the stem badgers but this isn’t and expensive pipe so what can I do. I thought about sanding it all off but this is going to be a working pipe I think so it’s gonna get beat up. I also left the chatter, it isn’t terrible and the last time I tried correcting chatter I destroyed the stem.
Anyways, this is only the third pipe I’ve brought back to working condition. I’m very much an amateur but my goals are to get them back into a condition I can smoke. I’ll leave the professional restorations to the pros for now. Thanks for looking!
