Really nice work nsfisher -the whole thing is gorgeous. I have been trying my hand at restoring some cheap estates I picked up, but my stems ain't looking like yours. May have to get the stem restorer you picked up after all.

I removed 95% of the Oxidation on the stem via "Old School" and finished it off with Walkerbriar Stem Restore Kit and then a coat of Carnuba Wax/Sealer.
Can someone clue me in on what "Old School" means? I've used the Walkerbriar Restore Kit but need something that works well on this level of oxidation yellowing. I have done some searching here, but my searchfu is weak evidently.

@seanavan
"Old school" = 2 inches of warm tap water in an ice cream container. Drop the stem in and a piece of 1000 grit wet paper. rub untill water turns brown and a bit of black shows on the stem(avoid rubbing the symbol on the stem). Get clean water and repeat. Keep repeating until stem is showing black all over. Switch to clean water and 1500 grit paper and repeat. Switch to 3000 grit paper and repeat. By now the stem should be all black with NO oxidation (or brown) showing anywhere. Process takes anywhere from 2-4 hours.

Thanks very much for the clarification, nsfisher. If I can get it to work half as well as your pics indicate you did, I'll be happy.
Now, to go empty an ice cream container...

I am amazed it is the same pipe, it looks nothing like the original picture. Excellent work and I am happy that you are really enjoying smoking it. A patent Dunhill is on my list, I hear nothing but great things about that era.

Thank you all very much. All the nice comments sure helped to make the work worthwhile. Smokes like a dream, I am very pleased. Guess I won't need another new pipe until at least Christmas time.

I like the patina on the rim, it looks fitting to me. Great work on the stem with handtools, that 3000 grit paper does a nice job! (is that the foam padded stuff avaiable at Autosupply?)

No mate, it is just regular wet paper that they use on finish sanding on cars before painting. It is a Blackish/Greyish in color. I keep the paper and the stem wet while rubbing. There is no grit feeling while rubbing/sanding.
