My 4 yr old boy has been wanting a dog since we dog sat a lab puppy for my parents over a year ago. We have been looking for a puppy to add to our family, but sadly the dogs we wanted were a little to much for our budget. My wife's cousin posted on facebook for a friend of her's that her family needed to get rid of there 1.5 year old dog. We decided this might be a good opportunity for us. We took a drive last night about 45 minutes to go visit the family and check out the dog. We arrived and the dog met us at the door wagging her tail and gave my sons (2 and 4 years old) kisses. The family had a 9 month old and a 5 year boys. They had to get rid of her because they were moving and the place they were going had originally said they could have a dog, but 3 days before they actually moved in the owner of the property said no because she looked to much like a pitbull. While the dog(Abby) does have pit in her she looks more like a hound or lab mix. The family had rescued her from owners that didn't take very good care of her. She had mange when they got her and have been working to get rid of it. She is the sweetest little dog, very good with my family so far. She is very hesitant around other dogs and when she is around me she tolerates them. Last Pm she slept right at the foot of our bed. She loves to run and play with the boys in our yard and is learning quickly commands we are giving her. I am very happy with her. Bradley and his Pimon inspired me to get a pup for my boys. So here is a pic of her.

That’s wonderful bigboi. I’m always glad to hear when someone rescues a dog...so many unwanted ones, or situations such as you described. May she have a long happy life with you and your family.

good for you and the pup. we volunteer with an animal rescue. we have two pit mixes one a Katrina rescue the other severely abused, nearly dead but now happy & healthy. Currently we are struggling with the city against breed specific legislation. We are definitely in favor of vicious animal legislation but do not believe it should be breed specific.

Well, that's a fine looking dog! You doubtlessly saved her from a shelter (or worse). Nice.

The kids will benefit from the companionship and responsibility, so it's a win-win situation.

Bigboi: I grew up with dogs, altho I don't have one at the moment.
Most were mutts, or rescues. I showered love and affection on them and the dogs just couldn't wait to return the love.
My last dog was a black lab. She taught me everything I ever knew.
I believe that dogs, like people, are not born bad. They are made bad. I've seen pit bulls and Rotts that were as gentle as lambs and nestled beside babies.
I know you and your family will have a wonderful companion, no matter her mix or breed. Love and affection wins out.
Congrats.

What a great score for both your new pup and your family! She's a beauty!
My wife rescued Voluntario Salsipuedes Guiterrez (A.K.A. Eddie) while on a trip to Yuma, Arizona last year. He joined our two whippets, Senator K. Thorvaldson and Maxwell Evarts Perkins and our cat, Chloe-St.John-Flaming-Golden-Eyed-Witch-From-Hell, and immediately won over all of our hearts.
These four-legged creatures greatly enrich our lives every day!
Enjoy!

Bigboi, that's a great-looking dog and I hope that you and yours have many happy years together. One of my two dogs (both rescues) is a pit-lab-who-knows-what-else mix and she's as gentle and sweet as can be.
Well done.

Pits have been given a bum rap in recent history. Their biggest problem is that they want to please their owner. Unfortunately a lot of their owners are thugs.
In the early 1900's pits were considered a wonderful "family" dog. The RCA dog was a pit. Mixed with Lab and I think you have a great dog. You might want to take her to dog socializing classes after she gets use to her new home. I think you have a great dog that will protect your family.

What a wonderful new companion you have. I've never had to buy a dog; they were all rescues, and I've been involved in a few rescues myself. One dog wandered into the school I was teaching at years ago, anxious to make friends: she was dirty, starved with ribs sticking out, hardly a desirable dog. But something connected and I asked my principal to let me take her home. She stayed with me, my most loyal friend, for thirteen years, before passing. They are truly God's special creatures.

She's the perfect buddy for your boys in all their goings and doings, and if she looks a little pit bull, that

might not be all bad. She looks just like a sweetheart to me. Nice size dog for kids, big enough to run

and jump, but not so big she'll knock 'em down. And although I do love pups and kittens, an adult animal

is a fine thing, especially for parents raising kids. You don't really need another small one right now. I took

on two kittens, brothers, and it was six or eight months of insanity. They were sweet, but nuts. It was loads

of fun, sometimes a little more than I could handle. They're grown; all is well.

And don't forget Petie, from the "Little Rascals".

Good on you for rescuing her! All we have ever owned are rescues; they are incredibly loyal and wonderful dogs. I'll smoke a bowl in my just picked up Nate King. A cute little nose warmer I picked up at Smokers Haven today. The first bowl will be in Abby's honor and celebration.
