Slightly more than I wanted to spend but how often does a 1914 Canadian Patent HW EC Dunhill Canadian from the early 20's come around looking like this?
48b35e36486e583defe72202dd9065cd088f5e3.jpg

Was advertised as having a black spot, the spot is ivory and everything I read states that pipes from this period do show up on occasion with blacked out dot and it was more likely done by the owner who may have had the ability to own a Dunhill but if he frequented certain pubs just the fact that you owned one was frowned upon so in order to enjoy a few libations and his Dunhill the spot was blacked out. Whatever the reason it is a fine looking Canadian Dunhill which is a shape I lacked and wished to replace.

Would love to see more pics as well. Looks like a brilliant find.
I always keep my eyes open for a birth year but I haven't found a shape & condition that is worth the cash as of yet. Someday.....

I will be happy to when I have it, the other photos from the website were low resolution thumbnail shots and don't look good at all blown up.

Have you dealt with the seller before?
I'm asking because the root finish didn't exist until 1930. :|

It's not a root, it is marked correctly for the period HW for hand worked and EC for the shape and the 1914 Canadian Patent. I have purchased from the dealer in the past with great results.

I was thinking more about the root finish color than the actual stamping. This is the first light-colored early 20's Dunhill I've ever seen. It's almost blonde.
Have any of you other BritWood fans seen one before?
And definitely more pics when it arrives. That is a truly rare and unusual piece.

There's just no shape tobacco pipe more stately than a Canadian, something about the longer shank. The Dunhill is an exemplar, but even a Benton, Johs or Stanwell has this quality.

Congrats. Always good when you can replace a mistake trade or sell. There is one shap that will haunt me getting rid of. Maybe some day I can replace one of the 4 I had.

Why so, Banjo? Did they think a Dunhill was ostentatious or what?

Banjo, I've read that the Canadian Patent Dunhill pipes were actually made under license by Blatter & Blatter of Montreal. Here is a reference point for you: http://www.blatterpipes.com/history.htm
An excerpt from the page...

Frederick’s son, Ernest, joined his father and uncle in the business in 1907, and the family became very busy with the factory, which was located on the east side of Montreal. Retail shops all across Canada and Europe clamored for Blatter-made pipes. In the 1920s, the Blatters even manufactured Dunhill pipes, stamped with the Canadian patent. “I still have the stamp here in the back,” says Robert. “More Dunhill pipes were sold here in Canada in the ’20s and ’30s than were sold in the United States.”
I've had good correspondence with Robert Blatter via the shop's email address. I bet there's a chance you could get a little backstory on your pipe from him. info@blatterpipes.com
Congrats on a wonderful find, and one this Canadian is looking to add to his own rack.

Wow Pruss that is like a goldmine of information thank you very much! I will contact Mr. Blatter once the pipe is in hand and I will need to take better photos the one I posted was the only usable one from the website the rest were all low resolution thumbnails. I love it when the plot thickens! :D

Admittedly, I have been quite captivated by both the Canadian and Lovat shapes. That is a beautiful pipe.
With pruss' provided link I would say, "The game is afoot."
Great score!

Well 2015 is nearly a memory now and I promised to post better photos of the Dunhill HW EC Canadian Patent CA 1914 but have not been feeling great so I blasted a few shots with my iPhone so it can be seen the color of the pipe is nowhere as light as the original photos which is what I expected, very pleased with its condition and hope to break it in on a nicer weather day in 2016.
In the mean time here are the 4 snaps I took and wish you all the best for 2016. Cheers and be safe. Will check with Robert Blatter after the New Year and hoot to learn more.
